Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA)
Job Description:
The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) will provide chairside assistance, perform expanded clinical duties as permitted by Indiana regulations, and support the dental team in delivering outstanding patient care. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during restorative, preventive, and cosmetic procedures.
- Perform expanded functions permitted under Indiana EFDA regulations.
- Place and contour restorative materials as directed by the dentist.
- Take dental impressions, radiographs, and intraoral photographs.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials for procedures.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-treatment care instructions.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation.
- Follow OSHA, CDC, and infection control guidelines.
- Ensure treatment areas remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Support a positive and efficient patient experience.
Qualifications
Required
- Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification.
- Knowledge of dental procedures, materials, and terminology.
- Strong communication and patient care skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Preferred
- Previous EFDA experience.
- X-Ray Certification.
- CPR/BLS Certification.
- Experience with dental practice management software.
